Kelly Cook recently hosted researchers from the Steel Slag Initiative at the Edw. C. Levy Butler Mill Services and Fulton Mill Services locations to help the researchers gain more insight into how slag service providers operate at steel mills. The visit was insightful and awe inspiring to the researchers whose highlights included watching slag pots dump into hot pits, seeing slag tapping from the furnace, and even grabbing a handful of EAF sand and marveling at the weight of the material compared to natural aggregates. Kelly and the National Slag Association will continue to provide insight and knowledge to the research team as they spend the next 5 years researching the potential for using steel slag in concrete and cement.
